Our theme this year is Model United Nations with the focus on 4 sustainable goals: Climate Action, No Poverty, Quality Education, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (see https://sdgs.un.org/goals) . The Virtual Summit will take place Friday April 23rd 2021 from 8:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. via Zoom at Virtual Peoria Academy.
Model United Nations seeks to empower students to solve international issues through research, public speaking, negotiation, written solutions and rules of procedures. PA’s Virtual GLS Summit is designed to reach the Model UN’s objectives with an emphasis on learning diplomatic style of debate and leadership. Guest speakers will include those with careers in or related to the United Nations. Students can participate in various roles as a delegate, committee chair and/or researcher/assistant. For more information on becoming a delegate or committee chair, see https://mun.bestdelegate.com/video-gallery/. In preparation for the GLS, you can join the after-school MUN club at Peoria Academy. Students can either attend in-person (dependent on P.A. COVID policies) or online via Zoom. Please contact Julie Gianessi at jgianessi@peoriaacademy.org and sign up ASAP for it is limited in space.
Peoria Academy’s Global Leadership Summit (2012- present)
The PA’s GLS is an annual event organized and hosted by Peoria Academy International Families Committee (“IFC”) and Peoria Academy’s Middle School. For the past seven years, Peoria Academy has invited middle school student ambassadors from all over the greater Peoria and Central Illinois regions to engage in its summit to learn about and discuss current topics especially relevant to its own and invited aspiring student leaders. Each school sends six student ambassadors from sixth through eighth grade to participate in the GLS. Homeschoolers and non-traditional schools also participate.
